Washington’s Teeth

Just read this story by Mary Swan, a highly successful writer. This is in the current issue of Zoetrope: All-Story. The story is about a day in the life of an elderly woman. It has no major conflict or plot. It simply describes her thoughts and actions during that day. It is a very thoughtful and entertaining account.

As someone attempting to be published in flash fiction or short story online publications, it’s interesting that this piece would likely be labeled “not a story” by any number of editors who demand a plot and conflict, and often prefer, novel or touching resolutions in every piece.
